AKA Saint Martin on the French side. The island is one of those interesting Caribbean social experiments writ large. One island, one people, but split between two superimposed colonial cultures. Jim rented a car and we circumnavigated the island. Sometimes in France, sometimes in the Netherlands.
One mandatory stop is the Sunset Bar, noted for it's unique location on a very narrow strip of beach situated a few feet from the end of the island's primary airport runway. The inexplicable attraction for visitors to the beach is getting your exposed flesh sandblasted by the jet exhaust of a 747 as it takes off or lands. They even post the arrivals of the major flights...
When in
I was trying to take a picture of a 747 on the runway from the bar to provide perspective to the reader, but this woman stepped directly in front of the jet and blocked my view as I took the shot. So I moved and shot some video instead...
Then we wandered down the beach to get in the path of the next flight and Jim demonstrated his photographic skills.
It was quite exciting. I'll probably post an edited video someday.
